Zamboanga Sibugay, one of the newest provinces in the Philippines, is a hidden paradise located in the Zamboanga Peninsula Region. Although often overlooked by mainstream tourism, this province offers a refreshing blend of untouched natural beauty, rich culture, and peaceful destinations. During my recent visit, I discovered serene waterfalls, pristine islands, and warm local hospitality that made the experience truly unforgettable.

I – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Geography and Terrain1 – The province features a mix of coastal areas, lush forests, and mountainous terrain. Its diverse landscape allows visitors to enjoy both beach and inland adventures.
  • History & Heritage – Established in 2001, Zamboanga Sibugay is one of the youngest provinces in the country. It was carved out from Zamboanga del Sur, making it a relatively new but rapidly developing destination.
  • Religion & Culture – The culture of Zamboanga Sibugay reflects a blend of Christian and Muslim influences, with local traditions emphasizing community, hospitality, and respect.

III – HOW TO GET THERE

There are no direct flights to Zamboanga Sibugay. However, you can fly to nearby airports such as Zamboanga International Airport, Dipolog Airport, or Pagadian Airport. From these airports, land travel to Ipil takes around 2–4 hours.

I opted to join a joiner tour that includes Misamis Occidental and the Zamboanga Peninsula. This joiner tour offers travelers an affordable yet comprehensive experience of the region’s natural and cultural highlights. The journey begins at Pagadian Airport, with a transfer to the bus terminal and a short ride to Molave (around ₱100).
